Saturn L Series Sedan

The Saturn L Series cars were launched as the LS (for sedan) and LW (for station wagon) but by 2001 new names arrived. The new Saturn mid-size sedan is available in three models, the LS, LS1 and LS2. Standard on the base LS/LS1 sedan is an all-new, Saturn- exclusive 2.2-liter dual overhead cam four-cylinder engine that provides 137 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm. A 3.0-liter dual overhead cam V6 engine, which is available on the LS2 and LW2, puts out 182 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm.

All engines are available with a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, while a five-speed manual transmission is standard with the LS/LS1 sedans. Both the Saturn LS and LW feature power front disc, rear drum brakes, with power four-wheel disc brakes standard on the LS2 and LW2.

ABS with electronic traction control is available as optional equipment on all new Saturn LS and LW models. Power steering option added (SL). Some older SL's received power steering at no cost when manual steering components were in short supply. Black Gold and Light Plum added; Grey and Medium Blue deleted. The entire LS line up was replaced by better equipped L100, L200 and L300, and LW200 and LW300.
